Today, Boox announced a new A4-sized E-Ink tablet; the BOOX NOTE MAX.
I’m not yet privy to very much in terms of details, but it appears to be a 13.3″ monochrome e-ink tablet, with optional keyboard folio, and a streamlined design (not unlike the Boox Go 10.3).
At first glimpse, it looks like a very interesting device. I’ve never hidden my preference for larger-screened e-ink tablet because they are much better for reading PDFs, and that extra canvas space for writing makes a massive difference. But there’s never been many devices of this form factor on the market.
The last time Boox released a 13.3″ tablet was in January 2022 (the Boox Tab X) and it was an absolute powerhouse. Looking at the Note Max, I’m not sure it will have the same powerful hardware (or even a frontlight, or Super Refresh) as it seems to be of the minimalist ilk of the Boox 10.3. If so, this could leave room for an upcoming 13.3″ colour/BSR tablet in Boox’s TAB range in the future (and, personally, I think it would be great to see more choices in the A4-sized screen sub-niche).
However, this is pure speculation, so I could be completely wrong!
The Note Max has yet been released, but is “coming soon“, and will cost around $700.
I’ll bring you more details as I get them…

Dan Dutton is passionate about E-ink writing tablets, which bring together the pleasure of writing on paper with the power of digital technology. When he bought his first tablet, he realised that there wasn't a lot of unbiased information available for people that were considering buying an E-ink tablet, and so he built eWritable.
It has BSR…which raises the question of battery life
It does…however, I’ve been doing some battery tests with the NA4C and am seeing some significant improvements over the NA3C (although this is software-based improvements from the latest update).
